In this series of workshops we will learn how to create a visual narrative, ending with each participant taking away their very own mini book (or ‘zine’). These sessions are perfect for those interested in learning more about illustration, design, storytelling and bookbinding.

Artisan: An Introduction to Narrative and Basic Bookbinding run by Rose Wilkinson, will run as soon as we can.
Session 1: 1.5 hours.
In this first session we will explore what makes a good visual narrative. We will complete a quick exercise to get you thinking about how design is key to creating narrative pacing, and then we will begin work on helping you to create a story. (Each participant will be given a ‘starting point’ image/photograph ready to base their story around). We recommend that you bring your own sketchbooks and drawing materials for this session.
Session 2: 1.5 hours.
You will now learn basic bookbinding techniques in order to have somewhere to tell your story! We will fold and sew two or more different types of ‘book’.
Session 3: 1.5 hours
In this session we will be using the techniques from session 1 and our book from session 2 to create our mini narrative (You can think of this as a zine!). This will be a collaborative working session with guidance from me, ending with a group discussion on our books.
